Focusing on patient experience - this was the driving factor in all design decisions. From the curved façade that has lighting elements of a beacon, a revealing of interior warmth, and a large, light-framed open window onto the main waiting area - to the details of the patient room including a curved, soft-form light above the bed and a light-framed floating headboard (with the lower element acting as a night light.) The materials were chosen to provide warmth, strength and encourage a tactile, hands-on experience. Lighting to display these attributes included coordinated architectural details and careful placement of light fixtures. Several detail and coordination meetings with the design team, as well as open and consistent communication with the construction team (even from afar), ensured the proper lighting effects. Two healing gardens are made comfortable at night with ample yet indirect lighting, that focuses on aesthetic features to allow the eye and mind to wander about the space.
