The North Tower added another 106 patient rooms to the campus, with a focus on some of the smallest and youngest members of our community. We worked closely with the staff to develop a lighting scheme that was comfortable for the patients and effective for the staff. We explored methods to incorporate warning lighting when sound levels passed key thresholds as well as lighting for circadian benefit.
A previous atrium design proved to be uncomfortable for waiting parents. We were asked to provide lighting and daylighting strategies that would create comfortable waiting spaces for the two new atria. Working with fritted glass patterns, and glazing pane offsets we both modeled and mocked-up the strategies. The resulting installation provides a comfortable environment even in the harsh Texas sun.
